A 12-inch tablet PC from Asus could soon be on the market powered by the latest hardware from Intel.
Core i5 CPUs from Intel’s fledgling Oak Trail product platform are
expected to be incorporated into what could be the start of a flood of
similar devices from a whole range of manufacturers from around the
world.
Asus will be the first to launch a
tablet powered by Intel’s Oak Trail platforms and could have a new
12-inch model being introduced in the US and Europe before the end of
the year.
A number of announcements on the subject of Intel-powered tablets
are said to be planned for the CES trade show set to take place in the
opening week of 2012.
No lesser names than Acer, Dell, Toshiba and Samsung are among the
giant manufacturers intending to base their upcoming tablet releases on
Oak Trail, the Taiwanese news provider maintains .
DigiTimes’ source is quoted as saying: “Intel is expected to deliver
its Oak Trail platform products, which include its Atom Z670 processors
and SM35 chipsets, to notebook ODMs in January.
“Asustek is expected to unveil high-end, 12-inch tablets, powered by Intel’s Core i5 CPUs, at the end of December.”
Just this week, Asustek has introduced the Eee Note EA-800, an
eight-inch hand held tablet notepad and the Eee Reader DR900, hailed as
the world’s first nine-inch touch-screen ebook reader.
